Citizen Kane

After watching Citizen Kane I began to think about the sound used in the film. Having been told that Welles was in radio before doing this movie it was interesting to listen more carefully to what was going on in the movie. To start off the interesting sound fround in the movie Welles used a very loud fanfare to start off the 'News on the March' where the viewer is informed of Kane's life. This was unique because not only was it a sharp cut right after Kane's close up on the word Rosebud, but the sound was very loud and startling. The next time where the sound was very noticable was at the breakfast for Kane. There was somewhat of a conversation going on between Kane and his friends yet it was almost completley drowned out by the music of the band. This had to be intentional as it sounded like some sort of celebratory music you would hear on the radio. This proved to be important because that music ended up being the music played at Kane's political rally. All in all the sound played a very vital role in what Welles wanted to get accross to the viewer.
